Reflex Therapy

Reflex Therapy, is the application of pressure, primarily, but not limited to, the feet, hands or ears, which causes a physiological response in the body.

It was developed by Marcia L. Aschendorf, DR, NMD, DM, ND, PhD and is an advanced progression of the Foot Reflexology developed by Eunice Ingham in the 1930's and 1940's.   Its history is rooted in the histories of simple foot reflexology, acupuncture, massage and other body or pressure therapies.  In her teaching manual she states:  "I have had the opportunity and privilege to study a variety of different theories, styles, and techniques of reflexology along with other pressure therapies on several continents.  I have tried to incorporate what I feel is the best of each, while rejecting the ineffective, into a complete therapy."

Reflex Therapy is not magical, mystical, spiritistic, or supernatural.  It is a natural healing technique and, as such, aims to treat the individual as an entity, incorporating the body, mind and spirit.  It is an energy pressure therapy that works with the constant flow of energy through the meridian system to effect changes in the human body.  This idea of energy flow in the human body is based upon the theories and principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Meridian System.  Its tenets have been substantiated and furthered by the modern research of scientists in Quantum Physics, which indicates that all matter is not just a collection of closely compacted atoms, but more basically a collection of closely compacted energy, or as the Chinese say "Wu Li", which translates into the word Physics.  Wu Li also translates into the phrase  "Patterns of Organic Energy", which fits precisely with the modern scientific findings of Quantum Physics.

Reflex Therapy Practitioners do not isolate a disease and treat it symptomatically, nor do they work specifically on a problem organ or system.  Their work focuses on the whole person with the objective of normalizing the flow of energy through the meridians thus inducing a state of balance and harmony or homeostasis.

Reflex Therapy must not be confused with basic foot massage or body massage, as it is more closely related to acupuncture, but without the needles or the pain.  It is specific pressure techniques that work on precise reflex areas, primarily, but not limited to, the feet, hands and ears.  Based on the premise that these reflex areas represent microcosms of the body, that are somatically replicated on the feet, hands and ears.

We currently have two full-time Reflex Therapists and one part-time Reflex Therapist to meet your needs.  Call for an appointment today.
